A project to improve the fire detection in the individual dwellings and communal areas of Explorers Court South Block located in Poplar E14.

The property located within a predominantly residential area with local retail amenities in close proximity forms part of One Housing Groups housing property portfolio and provides accommodation via a mixture of 1 and 2 bed properties.

The scope of work involved the installation of interconnected mains powered smoke and heat detectors with integral battery backup power to all rooms within the flats that overlooked an area of external wall as per NFCC guidance. Additional works included the installation of stand-alone sounder devices within the communal areas affected.

The objective of the improvements works was to provide the dwellings with Grade D fire detection in accordance with the requirements of BS 5839-6:2019 in turn providing re-assurance to the tenants of the building.

Works were undertaken with properties remaining in full occupation for the duration of the contract and as Principal Contractor consideration of tenant’s property and personnel belongings and neighbouring properties was a priority throughout the contract’s duration. Works had to be carefully programmed to ensure minimum disruption to the tenants and the project required us to provide Resident Liaison Services as part of project delivery.

The project was completed ahead of schedule, within budget and to the satisfaction of the client, the tenants and One Housing Group stakeholders.
